The marble of sculptors — the brightest white ground in the Carrara family, with bold, well-defined grey veining.
Statuario is a classic white Italian marble from the Carrara region, historically the marble of choice for sculpture (Michelangelo among its admirers). It is distinguished by an exceptionally bright, clean white ground and bold, well-defined grey veining — more dramatic than Carrara, cooler and greyer than Calacatta Gold.
It is rarer than Carrara, which places it closer to Calacatta in both prestige and price.
A true marble around 3–4 Mohs. It etches on acid contact regardless of sealing, scratches more easily than quartzite, and needs regular sealing. The standard marble trade-off applies: specify it for clients who want authentic marble and will accept patina, and use a honed finish on working surfaces.
A bright, cool white ground with striking grey veining — some fine and linear, some bold and sweeping, depending on the block. The high white brightness makes it read crisp and luminous, the archetypal "statement white marble."
Honed for working surfaces (hides etching, soft matte); polished for maximum brightness and contrast on walls, features, and low-use surfaces.
Vanities, bathroom counters, shower walls, fireplace surrounds, feature walls, and — for committed marble clients — honed kitchen counters and islands. Bookmatches dramatically.
Its cool bright white and grey veining suit both warm and cool palettes — white, grey, and wood cabinetry, and chrome, nickel, brass, or black hardware. More flexible than the warmer Calacatta Gold.

Statuario sits near Calacatta in value — the brightness of the white and the clarity and balance of the grey veining drive it, and the finest blocks are scarce. NSC sources it on demand; request current wholesale pricing and availability.

Statuario has a brighter, whiter ground with bolder, more defined grey veining and is rarer and pricier. Carrara has a softer grey base with fine, feathery veining and is more affordable and available.
Statuario reads cooler, with grey veining on a bright white ground; Calacatta Gold reads warmer, with gold-and-grey veining. Both are rare and prestigious Carrara-region marbles.
Yes — as a true marble it etches on acid contact regardless of sealing and can stain if unsealed. A honed finish hides etching better than polished.
Yes, for clients who accept marble patina and specify a honed finish. For the look with no maintenance, a white quartzite is the alternative.
